Canada’s Lucara Diamond presented a newly discovered 2,492-carat diamond to Botswana’s Prez Mokgweetsi EK Masisi on Aug 24. The diamond is reportedly one of the largest stones excavated from its Karowe mine. Lucara did not reveal the stone’s gem quality but its size would make it the 2nd largest rough diamond discovered. The first position is held by the 3,106-carat Cullinan Diamond found in neighbouring South Africa in 1905. Notably, Karowe Mine is known for producing large stones, with other significant finds including the 1,758 carat Sewelô & 1,109 carat Lesedi La Rona diamonds. Botswana is the world’s top diamond producer by value.
