Yes, you read that headline right. Today, we’re wondering why Victoria Beckham — she of exacting taste and all-round immaculateness — is wearing a top with holes in it. Some might even call the bow-detailed top threadbare.
You have to ask why someone, not only of Beckham’s financial stature, but as a designer, is wearing such a worn-out piece. With a brand that bares her name, Beckham likely has an atelier of crafts people on speed dial that are no doubt a dab hand at darning.
Of course, this being VB, you know there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to the thinking behind it.
Arriving in Paris ahead of her SS25 show on Friday, the designer – who often saves her most directional pieces for her time in the City of Light – opted to wear Balenciaga’s distressed lingerie top.
The designer might be her own label’s best ambassador but she’s never been afraid to dip her well-heeled toe in trends originating from the minds of her contemporaries, like Demna in this case.
Beckham gave the distressed approach technique all her devotion by wearing the full-look, as intended, with the lace-trip coordinating skirt. While I’m loathed to truly call this look a high-low mix (the top retails at £825), there is something of that approach. Alongside the intentionally lived-in Balenciaga, Beckham carried a pristine matte black alligator Hermès Birkin and a pair of Alaïa’s 90 pumps. The accessories sit in contrast with the distressed mood of Beckham’s Balenciaga.
With her show scheduled for Friday evening, it’s no doubt normal service in her own label will resume imminently.
