Ranking the top 10 point guards in today’s NBA…
Age: 25
2024-25 Stats
Let’s get something out of the way: when healthy, Luka is probably the best player in the world not named Nikola Jokić, which would effectively place Dončić atop this list of point guards.
Only Luka’s injury issues prevent him from running away with the top spot in these rankings, and it’s sadly beginning to feel like he’ll always be plagued by a body that betrays him. After limping to and through an NBA Finals last season, Luka has appeared in just 22 games this year. Is he going to end up having a career like Larry Bird’s, which is among the all-time greats but also marked by a physical breakdown leading many to wonder, “What if?”
Hopefully not. Luka is still just 25 years old. Then again, he’s logged more minutes on a pro basketball court than the average 25-year-old NBA player.
When he’s on the court, Dončić is so dominant offensively that his defensive shortcomings barely matter. He’s the best pick-and-roll passer in the history of the sport, and his fluid shooting stroke indicates that his percentages from three and the free throw line should rise as he ages.
Another separating factor for Luka compared to other players is his clutch gene, which he possesses in Jordan-esque amounts. Luka’s already shown in his brief career thus far that he’s capable of becoming superhuman late in games and making shots that no one (including him) thought were possible.
He’s one of the most gifted players to ever step on an NBA floor, and with him being in the center of his prime (age-adjusted for his early start in Spain), it makes no sense for Luka to be any lower than No. 2 on this list.
But who tops Luka as the best point guard in the game today? Find out below.
