The value of professional sports franchises is soaring. That includes the 30 teams comprising the National Basketball Association. Not all organizations are created equal, however. Today Forbes published their annual list of Most Valuable Sports Teams for 2024 and a few NBA franchises exceed the rest substantially.
Leading the pack are the Golden State Warriors, valued at $8.8 billion. They trail only the Dallas Cowboys ($10.1 billion) in all of sports, edging out the New York Yankees and their fellow NBA franchise, the New York Knicks ($7.5 billion).
The Los Angeles Lakers come in 8th among all sports teams, 3rd in the NBA, valued at $7.1 billion. Also making the Top 50 from the NBA: the Boston Celtics (19th overall at $6.0 billion), the Los Angeles Clippers (22nd at $5.5 billion), the Chicago Bulls (34th at $5.0 billion), the Houston Rockets (37th at $4.9 billion), the Brooklyn Nets (40th at $4.8 billion), the Dallas Mavericks (42nd at $4.7 billion), the Philadelphia 76ers (43rd at $4.6 billion), the Toronto Raptors (47th at $4.4 billion), and the Phoenix Suns (50th at $4.3 billion).
For those counting, that’s a full dozen NBA teams populating the Top 50 most valuable franchises. Forbes notes that this doubles the league’s representation from 2023.
