EXCLUSIVE: Stu Goldstein is the newly minted head of Business & Legal Affairs and General Counsel for Vice Media Group
The promotion of the longtime staff member to the newly created position comes as Vice Media has been laying off a lot of people of late. It also comes as the company is undergoing “fundamental changes to our strategic vision,” as CEO Bruce Dixon politely put it back in February.
“Stu is a trusted advisor and has helped steer Vice through a period of intense change as we position the company for its next phase of growth,” Dixon told Deadline today. “I am pleased that he has agreed to take on this expanded role and look forward to continuing to work closely with him and his talented team.”
Sold out of bankruptcy last year and now owned by hedge fund Fortress, a former investor, the once high flying and highly valued Vice has moved out of the news game that made its bones along with once much read free and often explicit magazine.
In its new iteration, Vice is centering on Vice TV, a joint venture of A&E and Vice, the Virtue ad agency, and Vice Studios.
Former Buzzfeed and NBCUniversal exec Goldstein will be in charge of overseeing all business for Vice Studios Group, the company’s film, documentary, commercial, and television production group; Vice TV; Vice Digital, and Virtue.
A Vice employee on the Business & Legal Affairs team in 2019, Goldstein will answer directly to CEO Dixon.
