Students under 19 years old can now renew their pass on the Navegante App in a digital format, with the card being valid for an extended period of time and no longer needing to be validated every month.
In a statement, Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa, which manages the Navegante pass, explains that students “no longer need to go to stores and wait in line to renew their pass at the beginning of each school year” and can now complete the process via mobile phone.
Thus, on the Navegante App, those under 19 years old simply need to update their pass and it will be valid until the end of the month in which they turn 19, or until the card’s expiry date, which is five years.
For those over 19 years of age, proof of school attendance must still be submitted at the beginning of each school year, but the pass is valid for one year and there is no need to top up every month.
