Getting a green card to live and work in the United States can be a challenging process. Even skilled immigrants reportedly have to wait for years before they get an invitation to apply for permanent residence. In a recent social media exchange, a top tech executive Rohit Krishnan, the Chief Product Officer of Bodo.ai, expressed frustration and said that the US immigration system has slowed down green card processing. Reacting to his post, Perplexity AI’s CEO Aravind Srinivas shared that he has been waiting for his Green card for three years but still hasn’t received it.
Rohit Krishnan, on X, explained how difficult it is for immigrants to get a green card. “One thing I find about the immigrants’ dialogue is how few of the people seem to know how hard it is to actually immigrate to this country. I’ve been an immigrant 3x now, and the US was by far the longest and hardest it’s been,” Rohit wrote.
The tech executive said that the process to get a US green card is lengthy and complicated for no good reason and it takes sufficiently high efforts to immigrate to the US. This, he said, discourages many exceptional people who would like to come to the country.
Not entirely long or hard for good reasons either, though that’s a different point. The amount of sheer effort it takes to get in is astronomical.I personally know a large number of extraordinary people who would love to come but just don’t want to take on the burden.

The post triggered a response from Aravind Srinivas, the CEO of Perplexity AI, who shared a similar experience with the green card backlog. “Yep. I have been waiting for my green card for like the last 3 years. Still haven’t gotten it. People mostly have no idea when they talk about immigration,” Srinivas commented.

Several other users also shared their experiences regarding the US green card.
A user commented, “It’s a shame that someone like you has to wait 3+ years for a green card given the kind of value you’ve added to America.”

A user went on to highlight, “EB2, EB3 current dates are 2011. Folks who came for Masters and got a job in 2010, and applied for GC in 2011 are still waiting, probably after paying a couple of Million dollars in taxes since then.”

Sharing his views, another user noted, “I think this never gets fixed simply because immigrants can’t vote so politicians don’t care about them.”
