With only a handful of weeks left in the college football regular season, every game is magnified. We have reached Week 12 of the year and it’s down to the final auditions for teams to make their cases for the College Football Playoff.
But which games are the best for this weekend? Luckily for you, Newsweek Sports has you covered.
Here are the top five must-watch games on this weekend’s slate.
5. Cincinnati @ Iowa State
While neither of these two teams is ranked, it could be one of the more interesting matchups on the schedule. The Cyclones are coming off two straight losses and will be looking to rebound their season.
The Bearcats are 5-4 on the year and getting a big win on the road against Iowa State could help their bowl-game placement. Both sides will be trying to knock the other down, creating some potential drama in the Big 12.
The Buffalos are on a roll, having won three games in a row entering the home stretch of the season. If they can get past the Utes, Colorado could solidify themselves in the College Football Playoff race.
While Utah isn’t the same team that they’ve been for years, they can still pull an upset. The Utes will look to shut down the offense of Colorado to get their second Big 12 win of the year.
LSU is coming off a blowout loss at home to Alabama but they are still technically alive in the SEC race. They would need to win out and have a few teams ahead of them drop some games but anything is possible.
The Gators will be looking to defend the swamp and the Tigers have been a throne in their side of late. If they could knock off LSU, it could help salvage their disappointing season so far.
Both of these programs have seen ups and downs this season. Missouri entered the year highly ranked but bad losses to Texas A&M and Alabama have seen them drop heavily.
South Carolina has picked things up in recent weeks and could finish strong within the SEC. A win for either side could go a long way in terms of the conference and possibly a spot in the College Football Playoff if things shake out well.
This is the heavyweight game of the weekend as the Volunteers look to put the nail in the coffin of the Bulldogs. Georgia has lost two games already this season and a third loss would likely spell the end of a College Football Playoff chance.
Tennessee has only had one slip-up this year and a win over Georgia could heavily increase their chance at playing for the SEC title. This should be a great game, showcasing two of the better teams in the country.
