Vince Carter averaged a team-high 27.5 points over 57 games during the 2004-05 season with the New Jersey Nets.
The Brooklyn Nets have had plenty of talented scorers during the history of their franchise, dating back to their days in the ABA. Let’s highlight their top five all-time single-season points-per-game leaders.
Barry spent two seasons with the ABA franchise, the New York Nets, from 1970-72. During his second season with the team, he averaged 45 minutes over 80 games. That helped him average 31.5 points and make the All-Star team. In addition to his scoring prowess, Barry averaged 7.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
In his first season with the Nets, Barry scored 29.4 points per game, making the All-Star team and finishing inside the top five in MVP voting. He shot 46.9% from the field on 22.8 shot attempts. While he only appeared in 59 games, he averaged 42 minutes.
Erving played for the Nets when the franchise was in the ABA. He played three seasons for the franchise, winning league MVP in each of those campaigns. His 29.3 points per game during the 1975-76 season led the league. A model of consistency, Erving averaged 39 minutes while playing in 84 games.
The 1974-75 season was Erving’s only season with the Nets where he didn’t league the lead in scoring. Erving came in second place that season behind George McGinnis, who averaged 29.8 points per game. Irving shot 50.6% from the field, while also chipping in 10.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.0 blocks. He played in 84 games, a feat that he accomplished in all three of his seasons with the Nets.
Carter won the Rookie of the Year Award as a Raptor and then made five straight All-Star teams as a member of the franchise. He then played just 20 games with the Raptors during the 2004-05 season before being dealt to the Nets. He made an immediate impact with his new squad, closing out the season by averaging 27.5 points over 57 games after the trade. He shot 46.2% from the field with the Nets, including 42.5% from behind the arc. His performance from 3-point land was a stark improvement over the 32.2% that he shot from three over those 20 games with the Raptors.
