Grable is one of five children in his family and grew up in Gordon, Georgia, small town with a population of under 2,000 people. He attended Wilkinson County High School where he was a multi-sport athlete and started his football career as a quarterback, passing for over 5,000 combined yards in his sophomore and junior seasons.
Grable missed his senior season of high school football with a broken foot and also decided the same year that his football future wouldn’t be at QB. An injury, coupled with a position change, kept DI teams from offering him scholarships; Grable eventually walked on at Jacksonville State.
After initially trying out at TE, Grable made the switch to offensive line and became a full-time starter at left tackle.
After four seasons at Jacksonville State (2018-2021), Grable still had two years of eligibility thanks to a redshirt season and pandemic-shortened year. He decided to transfer to UCF to play for Gus Malzahn’s up-tempo spread offense.
Grable went on to be a full-time starter at left tackle in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons for the Knights; he earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 in 2023.
