The Indian Cricket Team (ICT) are all set to undergo a new reign and regime, as Rahul Dravid will not be renewing his contract. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced that the apex institution for cricket in India is ready to accept applications for the role of head coach of the ICT.
Rahul Dravid took over the reigns from Ravi Shastri and the tenure produced two spectacular ICC Final appearances (ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and ICC World Test Championship 2023), however, ‘The Wall’ failed to win any major ICC event and is speculated to vacant the job post-T20 World Cup 2024. The BCCI are looking to go back to the older methods, by getting an overseas coach, and recreating Gary Kirsten Era (an era which produced the all iconic ICC Cricket World Cup 2011).
1. Ricky Ponting: The current Delhi Capitals coach and arguably the greatest captain to have ever lived is tipped to be one of the frontrunners for the job. The Australia has done an exceptional job with Mumbai Indians, and is doing a good job with Delhi Capitals, and if the 3-time World Cup winner does take over the reigns of Indian team, only god knows what mayhem can this Indian team create when under the wings of Ricky Ponting.
2. Stephen Fleming: The current CSK head coach is the most successful IPL coach in the history and is well-versed with the Indian conditions, and if the Kiwi legend accepts the job, the ICT can be in for a very interesting few years ahead.
3. Justin Langer: The current LSG coach has a good coaching experience and has a knack for young talent, especially pacers, and if ICT acquires the Aussie’s services, India can definitely see a new generation of young pacers coming up.
