The Buffalo Sabres selected Konsta Helenius as the 14th overall pick of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft this summer. The 18-year-old is viewed as having a high ceiling and could blossom into a top-six forward later down the road. Because of this, there is plenty of excitement surrounding the 5-foot-11 forward.

In Monday’s (Sept. 30) pre-season contest against the Detroit Red Wings, Helenius showed off his offensive skill by scoring the overtime winner for the Sabres.
While the Sabres were on the powerplay, Helenius received a feed from Mason Jobst and one-timed it home with a perfectly placed snipe from behind the faceoff circle.

One of Helenius’ top attributes is his shot, which he undoubtedly showed during this play. Because of it, the Sabres picked up a hard-fought win against the Red Wings.
The hope from is that Helenius will continue to build off his solid pre-season play. The youngster has all the tools to be a valuable part of the Sabres’ future. It will now be interesting to see what kind of campaign he puts together in 2024-25 from here.
