(WNDU) – The Purdue Boilermakers and the Indiana Hoosiers find themselves in the AP Top 25 men’s college basketball preseason poll, which was released on Monday.
Purdue came in at No. 14, while IU sits at No. 17.
The Boilermakers are coming off a national runner-up season and are looking to win a third straight Big Ten title after the departure of AP player of the year Zach Edey.
“We have three starters back from a Final Four team. We have five freshmen. We have a lot of guys with experience outside of those three starters,” Purdue coach Matt Painter said. “We’re excited about it. We’re excited about this group.”
The Hoosiers went 19-14 last season and saw their season come to an end in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. However, expectations are high in Mike Woodson’s fourth season at the helm after IU loaded up on talent in the transfer portal.
Michigan State and Michigan are on the outside looking in, as both programs received votes.
Kansas was tabbed No. 1 ahead of Alabama (No. 2) and two-time defending national champion UConn (No. 3). Houston (No. 4) and Iowa State (No. 5) round out the top five.
