SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The Notre Dame women’s basketball team is continuing to claw its way back to the top of the Associated Press women’s basketball poll.
The Fighting (9-2) are ranked No. 3 in this week’s AP Top 25, which is five spots higher than they were last week (No. 8).
The jump comes after Notre Dame picked up a huge win last week over No. 2 UConn and cruised to an easy win on Sunday over Eastern Michigan. It’s only mid-December, but the Irish already have three top wins under their belt this season (at No. 3 USC on Nov. 23, vs. No. 4 Texas on Dec. 5).
The No. 3 ranking is tied for Notre Dame’s highest ranking this season. The Irish were the third-ranked team a few weeks ago before losing back-to-back games in the Cayman Islands during Thanksgiving week.
Notre Dame has the majority of this week off for final exams. The Irish will return to the court on Sunday, Dec. 22, to host Loyola (Md.).
As for other regional teams, Michigan State (10-0) jumped two spots in this week’s poll from No. 17 to No. 15 while Michigan (9-1) remains at No. 20.
