SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The Notre Dame women’s basketball team is now the No. 3 team in the country after the latest Associated Press women’s basketball poll was released Monday afternoon.
The Fighting Irish (5-0) jumped up three spots from No. 6 after traveling to Los Angeles on Saturday for a marquee matchup at USC and defeating the third-ranked Trojans 74-61.
Another big reason why the Irish jumped in this week’s poll is because South Carolina, the defending national champion that had held the top spot in the previous 23 polls, lost to UCLA on Sunday 77-62.
The Bruins are now the new No. 1 and are holding the top spot in the poll for the first time in program history.
