Boasting epic views from the fairway, one NI club has been named the ‘World’s Greatest Golf Course’ by experts at Golf Digest.
With entries from across South Africa, Australia, Spain, Scotland, England, and the rest of Ireland, the publication revealed the best places to take to the green.
So, if you’re looking to experience the ultimate golfing break, it may be worth adding the north of Ireland to your bucket list…
The Royal County Down in Newcastle, County Down, came out on top of this year’s ‘World’s Greatest Golf Course’ rankings. The popular club beat out top links courses from all around the world, including a few other popular Irish spots.
Overlooked by the majestic Mourne Mountains and looking out over the Irish Sea, golfers can enjoy stunning views as they enjoy a game.
What’s more, the Royal County Down was not the only Northern Irish course to claim a spot on this year’s Golf Digest list. The popular Royal Portrush at Dunluce, which has played host to The Open Championship, claimed fourth.
Ranking alongside the Royal County Down to claim a spot on the list of ‘World’s Greatest Golf Courses’ are several incredible greens from all around the world.
Scotland’s Royal Dornoch Golf Club claimed second, followed by St Andrew’s in third. Coming back to Ireland, Royal Portrush Golf Club claimed fourth, followed by Australia’s Royal Melbourne Golf Course in fifth.
Revealing the results, Golf Digest wrote, “On a clear spring day, with Dundrum Bay to the east, the Mountains of Mourne to the south, and gorse-covered dunes in golden bloom, there is no lovelier place in golf.”
