The NFL world was shocked on Tuesday when Las Vegas Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams revealed that he “preferred” to be traded. Adams has been the subject of trade rumors for years, but in the offseason things began to heat up again.

The latest update pushed things over the edge, as Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce liked an image that stated Adams was playing his “final snap” in Las Vegas. Adams then appeared on “The Kay Adams Show” to reveal that he had not talked to Pierce or anyone in the organization about the trade.
Instead of choosing to wait for answers, Adams then stated he just wished instead to be traded. Further reports indicated that the Raiders were fielding calls and looking for a “second-round pick and additional compensation.”
Now, two playoff contenders have emerged as the top landing spot for the Pro Bowl receiver.
According to Adam Schefter, “Two teams high on Davante Adams’ wishlist of places to land – if not at the very top – are the Jets and Saints, per league sources. Adams ideally would like to play with a QB he knows. The Jets have former teammate Aaron Rodgers, and the Saints have former teammate Derek Carr.”
The Jets have been angling to find another star receiver to line up with Garrett Wilson. The team did acquire former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams, but he is still recovering from a torn ACL he had in 2023.
Earlier this season, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers also lit the internet on fire by stating that he couldn’t “wait” to play with Adams again. Rodgers has used his influence before, as he convinced the Green Bay Packers to trade for Randall Cobb twice.
Adams and Rodgers linking back up would already be amazing, but to have Wilson alongside Adams would make the Jets offense even more dangerous.
The Jets would make a ton of sense, as would the Saints. Adams previously played with quarterback Derek Carr while on the Raiders. Carr is now leading the Saints.
Adams and Carr linking back up could also help the Saints offense reach another level this season. The Saints have Chris Olave and Rashid Saheed catching passes from Carr, but adding Adams to that mix would give New Orleans one of the best-receiving corps in the NFL.
The biggest issue with Adams being traded is the contract he currently has.
According to USA Today, “Any team acquiring Adams would be responsible for paying the prorated remainder of his $16.89 million base salary for the 2024 NFL season.”
Any time wanting to trade for Adams will have to pay a hefty $16 million price tag, along with likely providing him an adjusted contract that would guarantee him some pay past 2024.
There is also available cap space to worry about. As it stands right now, the Jets currently have $16.8 million in available cap. The Saints only have $2 million, according to overthecap.com.
Time will tell who goes after Adams, but it appears his being traded is inevitable.
