Julian Edlow takes a look at his best bets for Heat vs. Pistons in the NBA Cup, including a player prop on Cade Cunningham.
The NBA Cup gets underway on Tuesday, with Miami priced as a short road favorite in Detroit. The Heat haven’t gotten off to a great start this season, sitting at 4-5, and will now be without Jimmy Butler on Tuesday. Miami has been a very nonchalant team in the regular season for a while now, and likely won’t be treating this NBA Cup as anything but an ordinary day.
Meanwhile, the young and coming Pistons should be up for a game like this. Detroit sits at 4-7 on the season, but after some shaky games in the first week, have really settled in. The Pistons have won three of their last five games, with victories over the Hawks, Nets and Lakers. But even the two losses in that span were by a combined three points, so they’ve had a legitimate shot in every game.
Part of the reason the Pistons have taken their collective game to a higher level recently has been the play of Cade Cunningham. The former No. 1 overall pick ripped off three triple-doubles in a row last week, and saw that streak snapped on Sunday with a 26-9-8 line in a frustrating loss to Houston. Sets up a nice bounce-back spot here for the Pistons, who are off a narrow loss, and were also blown out in Miami in the first week of the season.
Here’s a spot to get some revenge in a meaningful home game, while Miami will be without its best player. Cunningham is 7-4 to the over on 37.5 for this combo prop, including cashing it in Miami. He’s over in four in a row, and I expect him to stay hot and help his team earn a victory in the NBA Cup opener.
