The Golden State Warriors, currently 7-1, are a top NBA team. They defeated the defending champions, Boston Celtics, 118-112, in a game that was expected to be a chance for Jayson Tatum to get revenge on Steve Kerr for being benched during the Olympics.
The Warriors’ stellar performance from Curry, Buddy Hield, Draymond Green, and Kevon Looney may not be enough to secure their momentum into the playoffs. The Warriors have been a subject of numerous trade rumors since last season, with Kerr utilizing 12-man lineups effectively. The team could potentially sacrifice draft picks and depth players to acquire a star.

ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst suggests the Golden State Warriors are the most probable team to attempt a significant trade this season. Golden State Warriors, led by Curry, Buddy Hield, Andrew Wiggins, and Jonathan Kuminga, have started strong with a 7-1 record, but may need more to secure a championship. “They may not want to do anything with this roster because it’s so good, but the Warriors are the biggest candidate in my mind to make a big trade,” Windhorst said.
He continued, “They tried to trade for (Los Angeles Lakers forward) LeBron James last trade deadline… and they tried to trade for (Philadelphia 76ers forward) Paul George, and they tried to trade for (Utah Jazz forward) Lauri Markkanen. This is a team that’s got an itchy trigger finger trying to make a big deal.”
The Warriors have a promising lineup of young players in Kuminga, including Moses Moody, Brandin Podzemski, and Trayce Jackson-Davis, who own all their draft picks and are already winning. If they decide to trade off some players and some draft picks, they could acquire an impact veteran, although this may not be necessary. Golden State must capitalize on their 36-year-old Curry’s limited time to win a championship.
Last month, NBA insider Marc Stein identified two stars, Jimmy Butler and Giannis Antetokounmpo, as potential candidates for a significant NBA trade. Butler has two years remaining on his contract, which includes a $52.4 million player option for next season. Former NBA executive Bobby Marks has reported that Milwaukee is unlikely to trade Antetokounmpo anytime soon.
“Any time a team like that is struggling, there’s certainly going to be questions about the future of Giannis. He is not looking to be moved. Milwaukee is not looking to move him. They’re looking to try to figure out kind of what went wrong with this roster to start the season here. So, I think we can put away the fictional Giannis trade proposals for right now. There’s no concern from that front.”
