Dusty May and the Michigan Wolverines’ basketball team are making some waves on the recruiting trail, as they have made the final four for 2025 five-star point guard Darius Acuff Jr.
Along with Michigan, Acuff included the back-to-back national champion Connecticut Huskies and blue blood Kansas Jayhawks in his top four. The Arkansas Razorbacks also made the cut, as new head coach John Calipari looks to build a superpower in Fayetteville after leaving Kentucky this offseason.
Acuff would be a huge get for May and Michigan if he were to choose the Wolverines, as he can completely transform a roster. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard is ranked as the No. 8 overall player (No. 1 point guard) in the 2025 class by 247Sports’ composite, and the No. 7 overall player (No. 1 point guard) by On3.
According to 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein, Acuff is an explosive player and solid finisher at the rim. Finkelstein also notes that Acuff is a strong player on the defensive end of the floor.
Despite playing for IMG Academy in Florida, Acuff has some Michigan ties. He is originally from Detroit, which could be helpful in his recruitment should he want to return home. However, the Wolverines may have some ground to make up in his recruitment, as it appears Kansas and Arkansas are in the lead for his services.
Michigan did host Acuff for an official visit back in Sept. 2023, but that was when Juwan Howard was still the head coach. May building a rapport with him will obviously be key to making up ground in his recruitment.
