Christian McCaffrey had a 2024 season to forget thanks to injuries, but there is no questioning his popularity.
Lids revealed the top selling jerseys for the season on Tuesday, and the San Francisco 49ers running back topped the list. Considering he was also on the cover of Madden NFL 25, McCaffrey was quite visible during the 2024 campaign even though he appeared in just four games.
Here is a look at the list of top sellers that saw Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Micah Parsons and Tyreek Hill round up the top five:
While there were more McCaffrey jerseys sold in total, Lids revealed that Mahomes was the best-selling jersey in the highest number of states (13). His Super Bowl counterpart in Hurts was the highest-selling one in 13 states last year but only led four this year.
Even with Mahomes and Hurts moving jerseys on the way to the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles fell short of the 49ers in the race to be the top-selling team in gear.
At least the Eagles can take solace knowing they outsold the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pennsylvania and the New York Giants and New York Jets in New Jersey.
And they also have the opportunity to set the table for plenty of jersey sales for the upcoming season if they take care of business in Sunday’s Super Bowl against Mahomes and the Chiefs.
The Super Bowl bump is clearly real, as two 49ers players were in the top 10 alongside Mahomes after they faced each other in last year’s battle for the Lombardi Trophy.
A Super Bowl title would be Philadelphia’s first since the 2017 season. The excitement that would come from that combined with the sheer star power on the roster with Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, among others, would likely lead to plenty of jersey sales.
Maybe even enough to overcome the 49ers in overall sales next year.
