NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man who was punched and kicked while trying to diffuse a fight at Top Golf in Nashville has died as a result of severe head injuries, and a suspect has been charged in his death, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
Dahal Umesh, 41, was among members of Nashville’s Nepali community attending a concert in the lower level of Top Golf on Saturday when an argument erupted inside, causing people to go into the parking lot, police said. Umesh was reportedly trying to break up the fight when he was punched, causing him to fall and hit his head on concrete. He was then kicked in the head while on the ground, police said.
Bishal Rai, 26, was identified as the man who allegedly kicked Umesh while he was on the ground, according to police. He was charged with aggravated assault, and now that Umesh has died, that charge will be upgraded to criminal homicide, police said.
A judicial commissioner ordered that Rai be held without bond pending a hearing.
“The investigation is continuing into the potential involvement of other persons in the fatal assault on Umesh,” police said.
