The Minot High Majettes gymnastics team participated at the Mandan Invitational over the weekend. With six WDA teams at the event, Minot High had the best team score on Friday, January 17.
MANDAN – “We only had six of our ten gymnasts compete,” said head coach Robbie Werchau of the results. “Knowing there were only six of them, the rest of the girls stepped up and won! We [the team] scored a 137.9 to win.”
Bismarck Century hit 137.7 for second place while Mandan posted a 133.65 for third place at their home facilities.
Minot High’s Pavyn Peterson took first place in the All Around with a 36.200 to lead the Majettes.
“Pavyn Peterson was our top scorer again – 1st on bars with a 9.125, tied for 1st on beam with a 9.05, 2nd on floor with a 9.125, and 1st in all around with a 36.2,” said Werchau. “She has been very consistent this year, which is a key to success in gymnastics.”
Keira Davis placed first in the Vault with a 9.425 for Minot High.
“Keira Davis competed in all four events for the first time this season,” said Werchau. “She was 1st on vault with a 9.425, 3rd on bars with a 8.725, 7th on floor with 8.4, and 3rd in all around with a 34.525.”
Besides the top three schools, Bismarck Legacy (4th), the Northwest Stars (5th) and Bismarck High (6th) attended the meet. But it was Minot and Century in the battle for top billing.
“Amaya White stepped up on the vault as well,” said Werchau. “She was one of our top four scores on vault. Macey Blake was a top score for us on vault, bars, floor, and was tenth in all around with a 33.325. We needed her and she came through.”
The next meet for the Majettes will be on Friday, January 24, in Dickinson.
