The Pittsburgh got a massive steal at the beginning of the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft when they had cornerback Joey Porter Jr. fall in their laps with the 32nd overall pick.
The Penn State product proved the Steelers correct pretty quickly. Of all cornerbacks with at least 100 coverage snaps, Porter allowed the third lowest reception percentage in the league.
Porter believes in his abilities, as well. When Mark Kaboly of The Athletic asked the second-year cornerback who the best cornerback in the NFL is, Porter was very up front.
“Me for sure,’ Porter said. “There are a lot of good DBs in this league. Nobody was doing what I was doing going against WR1s the entire year and locking him down. I don’t care if I am mentioned in there or not because they are going to hear my name eventually.”
Porter doesn’t lack in confidence, nor should he. His name should be smore consistently mentioned amongst the best in the NFL, and he knows it. A big second season will be huge for Porter to really cement himself as one of the top defensive backs in today’s game.
