Good morning!
Here is today’s roundup of the latest news, rumors, and analysis on your Jacksonville Jaguars.
PFF: Jaguars O-Line graded bottom third entering 2024 (Big Cat Country)
Coming out of an injury-riddled 2023, the team was rated 28th by PFF. I would think that even grading the unit on a curve, most would have probably ranked their performance in this 23-28 range, with only one addition being made center Mitch Morse. It’s hard to forget 2023, where the team put together multiple tough-to-watch performances in both the run and passing games.
Execs, coaches, scouts rank NFL’s top 10 running backs for 2024 (ESPN)
After missing his entire rookie year because of injury, Etienne became a top-10 back with back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons, 16 total touchdowns and nearly 100 receptions.
One stat from last season perfectly describes Etienne’s explosion — he hit a max of 19.62 miles per hour when crossing the line of scrimmage.
“One of the few three-down backs. Really good zone runner. Makes people miss in space,” an NFL coordinator said. “Decent catching the ball and in pass protection. No major flaws — just not great in short-yardage situations.”
Ranking top 20 linebackers for 2024 NFL season: 49ers’ Fred Warner tops impressive list (CBS Sports)
A tackling monster, Oluokun has recorded at least 173 combined tackles in each of the last three seasons. He led the league with 192 tackles as a member of the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, then successfully defended his crown in 2022 with 184 takedowns and led the league in solo tackles for the second straight year in 2023 with 111. Oluokun played 99.7% of defensive snaps last year. Only two NFL defenders played more.
[Josh] Allen became an elite playmaking pass rusher last season with a career-best 17 1/2 sacks, and he’ll need to pace their defense again for the team to take another step forward. If Trevor Lawrence and the offense don’t have to win a track meet every week, it’ll take a lot more pressure off that side of the ball, which would be massive after a mistake-prone 2023 season. Allen can’t do it all by himself — that much was proven last year — but this defense needs him to be its MVP if it will have a chance to be a top-10 unit.
2025 NFL Draft: One offensive player to watch for all 32 NFL teams (PFF)
[Tetairoa] McMillan is on this list twice. But when thinking about what quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ offense could look like with McMillan as a WR1, this fit makes too much sense.
Jacksonville signed Gabe Davis in free agency, drafted Brian Thomas Jr. and has Christian Kirk already in place. The 6-foot-5 McMillan would give the team a contested-catch and red-zone option it lacks right now. And McMillan can be much more than just that, too.
Top Offensive Storylines To Watch Heading Into the 2024 Season (Jaguars.com)
Offensive storyline to watch: Can the Jaguars convert third and two? They were 32nd last season in short-yardage situations and their inability to get any push from the middle of the line of scrimmage said a lot about how their 2023 season went. They couldn’t run, which meant defenses adjusted and shut down the passing lanes. The Jaguars therefore couldn’t stay on the field, and it sent the offense off the rails. The addition of Morse and a healthy Cleveland should do the trick – and if veteran right guard Brandon Scherff struggles with injuries again, there is Cooper Hodges, who had a strong offseason, waiting. They must be able to move the ball a yard or two when they need it.
Top 25 Jaguars Countdown: Mitch Morse Land at No. 18 (Jaguar Report)
The Jaguars brought in Morse on a two-year contract this offseason after issues at the center position in 2023, namely in the running game. While Luke Fortner had appeared in every game in his first two seasons, the issues with the rushing game popped up week after week. That, namely, is where the Jaguars hope Morse comes in.
Lloyd, a 2022 first-round draft pick, grew up in a military household himself and said the smiles on the faces of the 120 children at the camp are “what it’s about.”
