Described as “a charming place in Dublin with historical and artistic touches”, the five-star tops the Irish list in its Travellers’ Choice ‘Best of the Best Hotel Awards’ (scroll down for the Top 10).
Rooms at the hotel, where celebs ranging from Bruce Springsteen to the Obamas have stayed, start from €595 in May, with breakfast from €29.50pp extra.
“You’ll find luxurious accommodations, including spacious bathrooms and attention to detail,” Tripadvisor says, along with a spa, 18m pool, two-Michelin star restaurant, and recently refurbished Cellar Bar. The Merrion also ranks 19th on its list of Europe’s best hotels.
“The hotel’s elegant vibe, incredible art collection, and professional staff set it apart,” the online travel giant says.
The list follows the publication of the Irish Independent’s Fab 50 for 2024, with Hayfield Manor and Dromoland Castle in Co Clare featuring in both.
In second place after The Merrion is the Killarney Park Hotel, which will shortly undertake a multi-million euro refurbishment including new rooms, a redesign of its gardens and spa, and a “thrilling new look” for its fine dining restaurant, Peregrine.
Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards are based “on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings” posted on its website over 2023, it says, “as well as an additional editorial process”. Over 1.6m global hotel listings were analysed.
The world’s No1 hotel for 2024 is Brazil’s Hotel Colline de France, a boutique stay in the mountain town of Gramado.
