The IPL 2025 auction is another mega auction after a gap of two years, with the previous mega auction taking place for the 2022 season. All franchises can only have a maximum of 25 players in their squad.
In the context of retention of players, all 10 teams were allowed to retain a maximum of six players (with a maximum of five capped and maximum of two uncapped players) and the franchises have retained different number of players before the auction.
What IPL can do as far as salaries of players are concerned?
All 10 franchises were allotted a total purse of Rs. 120 crore. Punjab Kings, for example, retained two uncapped Indian players, so, they can bring in a maximum of 23 players when they sit down at the auction.
The inaugural IPL winners, Rajasthan Royals and reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders have retained six players, respectively. So they have 19 slots to fill.
Both the five-time champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have retained five players each. They have 20 slots remaining to be
filled.
Last year’s losing finalists and 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2022 winners Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants have all retained five players, leaving all three teams with 20 slots to fill.
The Delhi Capitals have retained four players and they are left with 21 slots to fill and Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained three players leaving them with 22 slots going into the mega auction.
In terms of the overseas player slots, MI, CSK, PBKS and RCB have 8 slots each remaining; KKR have 6 slots; SRH have 5 slots; RR, GT, DC and LSG all have 7 slots remaining respectively.
