Intrepid Travel, the responsible B Corp certified tour operator, has achieved a record-breaking B Corp score of 102.5, making the operator the first travel company to achieve a score over 100 and placing it in the top 20 percent with other companies such as Patagonia and Ben & Jerry’s.
The tour operator posted record sales in 2023, reaching a $51 million in bookings in November 2024 alone. The company’s not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, raised over $2 million for local organizations in 36 different parts of the globe.
Businesses must score 80 to qualify for a B Corp certification and undergo recertification every three years.
Since its last recertification in 2021, Intrepid improved the diversity of its suppliers from 17 percent to 27 percent, representing more women and underrepresented groups; created 33 percent more employment opportunities with living wages aligned with the WageIndicator benchmark; added carbon labelling to over 500 trips; and expanded its community investment through volunteering and through The Intrepid Foundation.
“While others pull back on DEI and ESG, we’re doubling down,” said Chief People & Purpose Office Meegan Marshall. “At Intrepid, purpose and profit go hand in hand. In the face of geopolitical instability, the climate crisis, and growing inequality, it’s not the time to retreat—it’s the time for bold action to build a regenerative, equitable economy for everyone.”
Intrepid was certified as a B Corp in 2018 and was then only one of 19 travel companies to achieve the designation, which prioritizes the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Now, there’s almost 200 certified B Corp travel companies.
Wildland Trekking, the tour operator’s backcountry provider, also became B Corp certified this year.
