India came out from the bottom of the pit and climbed to the top as they beat Pakistan in match 19 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by 5 runs, defending 119 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island, New York on Sunday, June 9, 2024.
With this win, they now move to the top of the Group A points table ahead of the USA. Pakistan are winless after their first two games and are staring at a possible first-round exit from the World Cup.
Needing 120 to win, Pakistan started well and reached the 14th over at 80/3 in a comfortable position. However, Jasprit Bumrah turned things around by cleaning up settled Mohammad Rizwan and it never got better for the Men in Green from there. They eventually ended up at 113/7, losing by six runs.
Rizwan top-scored with 31 while Bumrah picked 3/14 for India.
Pakistan needed to win the match to make a comeback in the tournament after losing their first match against the USA.
Earlier Babar Azam won the toss and decided to bowl first. Rain stopped the play after the first over, However after the restart, Pakistan bowlers gave no chance to India and bowled them out for 119 in 19 overs. Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah took three wickets each while Rishabh Pant top-scored with 42.
