Seventeen-year-old Mirra Andreeva delivered a remarkable performance, defeating second-seeded Iga Swiatek to advance to the Dubai Championships semifinals on Thursday.
The Russian youngster demonstrated resilience by overcoming a second-set deficit to secure a straight-sets 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Andreeva, currently ranked 14th globally and a French Open semi-finalist last year, has achieved a milestone by becoming the first player since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007 to secure five victories against top-10 opponents at such a young age.

Andreeva revealed that she has been taking help from a psychologist to know “how to work with my anger inside, what to do when I don’t feel great, how to maintain my level when I feel great, how to keep being me.”
Swiatek, who has clinched five Grand Slam titles, struggled initially as she squandered seven break-point opportunities. Though she managed to break serve and gain a 3-1 advantage in the second set, Andreeva mounted an impressive comeback by claiming the subsequent five games.
Swiatek’s performance was marred by 33 unforced errors.

Top players faced early exits as Swiatek joined fellow competitors Coco Gauff, world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, defending champion Jasmine Paolini and Jessica Pegula in departing from the tournament.
The next challenge for Andreeva comes against sixth-seeded Elena Rybakina, who secured her spot by defeating American Sofia Kenin 6-2, 7-6 (7/2).
Denmark’s Clara Tauson, ranked 38th globally and fresh from her victory over Sabalenka in the round of 16, progressed to the semifinals with a 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 win against Czech player Linda Noskova, who had earlier eliminated Pegula.

Tauson has advanced to her maiden WTA 1000 semifinal appearance, where she will compete against Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova, who holds the 17th position in rankings.
Muchova secured victory over Romania’s Sorana Cirstea with a score of 6-2, 7-5.
