The Flowhesion Foundation, based in Halliwell, was given the Sport England Community Project of the Year Award at the Sporting Equals Awards earlier this month.
The foundation was honoured thanks to its work with the Halliwell Girls Sports Hub, which helps girls, especially those between 11 and 17 facing racial inequalities, get into sports.
Sports Hub coordinator Julie Vining said: “I’m ecstatic to have won the award on behalf of the girls and Team Flowhesion!
“At Flowhesion we want all communities to live better, feel better and achieve more.
“The award will motivate us to go further to bring creativity, accessibility and inclusivity to our sporting programmes”.
The award ceremony took place on October 5 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.
The annual Sporting Equals hosted awards celebrate achievements of people and groups from different backgrounds in sports and promotes the importance of inclusivity.
The award marks a major step in the Flowhesion Foundation’s history, having first been founded in 2017.
The foundation works across Greater Manchester on health, education, interfaith and welfare projects.
The Halliwell Girls Sports Hub was founded in May 2023 and works to give girls, who may be facing barriers like cost or travel, a safe and welcoming place to play sports.
As it stands, 58 girls are part of the hub and help to co-design the activities that they do in six-week blocks.
So far, the girls have taken part in rock climbing, boxing, horse riding with canoeing, skiing and swimming planned.
Cllr Safwaan Patel, of Halliwell said: “I want to congratulate The Flowhesion Foundation and the girls on winning this prestigious award.

“The work Flowhesion and other community groups do in Halliwell is invaluable.
“The girls’ sports hub in particular will contribute to a generation of young women who will be active, confident, healthy and driven.
“The Foundation has a strong, experienced team that are hardworking and understand the needs of their service users, this award being a testament to that fact.
“I am always eager to hear about and be involved in the many projects and programmes Flowhesion deliver.”
