A lot of receivers earned new deals this offseason.
Amon-Ra St. Brown (Lions), Calvin Ridley (Titans), Michael Pittman Jr. (Colts) and the Eagles’ duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith all inked lucrative contract extensions this season. Those deals pushed them each to or near the top of the highest-paid players at their position. Currently, Davante Adams still ranks No. 1 in total contract value at $140 million, while Brown ranks No. 1 in average annual salary at $32 million.
The Texans’ Nico Collins joined the club of contract extensions Tuesday after he signed a three-year, $72.5 million deal that can pay him as much as $25 million per year. It also came with in $52 guaranteed salary. While that deal didn’t push him into the top five of the highest-paid players at his position, Collins is now squarely in top-10 highest-paid receivers.
And he’s earned it. Collins caught 80 receptions for more than 1,200 yards and eight touchdowns during the regular season this past year. He added another 11 receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown in two postseason games in 2023. After two injury-plagued seasons with bad quarterbacks, Collins looked the part of a third-round pick with C.J. Stroud throwing him the ball.
Here’s how Collins’ new deal ranks among the rest of the NFL in 2024.
Collins’ contract value of $72.5 million ranks 10th, according to Over the Cap — just above Jaguars’ wide receiver Christian Kirk. If Collins hits his incentives and reaches that $75 million max value, he’ll tie Smith at No. 9.
That $24 million APY is tied for seventh among wide receivers with the Seahawks’ D.K. Metcalf. Once again, Collins would tie Smith if he hits his incentives to average $25 million per year.
Collins hit the jackpot with guaranteed money. His $52 million guaranteed at signing ranks second in the NFL behind only Tyreek Hill, who will earn $52.52 in guaranteed money over the course of his contract with the Dolphins. Only Collins, Hill and Brown have more than $50 million guaranteed.
