A competitive race in which the vote goes to course specialist ENGLISH SPIRIT, who won a division of this race last year and also scored in smooth style off a reduced mark here ten days ago. The other recent course winners Ashtanga and Visibility are feared most in that order, although Stye Of Life has been knocking on the door in her last two runs and should make another bold bid. Others to consider are Yeoman and the unexposed 4yo Royal Jet.
This looks a golden opportunity for TAWAJJAH, who sets a clear standard on his second behind a smart prospect at Southwell last month and is open to more progress on this step up in trip. The clear pick of the other four runners is Star Of Jupiter, who wasn’t beaten far on his Yarmouth debut in September and looks a likely improver on his second start.
Preference is for MAMMA MARIA who is well worth another chance to build on earlier promise having fluffed her lines on heavy going on her Haydock nursery debut last time out. Clive Cox’s nursery debutant Profit Rockit could emerge as the main danger ahead of in-form pair Puglia and Maids Head.
Plenty are in with a shout. ZU RUN took advantage of a drop in the weights when winning over 7f here last time out and the return to 6f shouldn’t be too big an issue. Hat-trick-seeking Diamond Dreamer must also enter calculations along with in-form pair Evocative Spark and Jax Edge.
Albert Lasker (second choice) brings very solid credentials to the table in his bid for a breakthrough victory, but DILLYDINGDILLYDONG (nap) is thriving under the expert tutelage of James Owen and is taken to bag a third success with this step up in trip a likely positive too. In-form veterans Uther Pendragon and The Resdev Way are both a long time without a win but need factoring in too.
This looks highly competitive. Last month’s Kempton winner Kitty Furnival is respected on her handicap debut, while the unexposed 4yo Lordsbridge Blu also looks open to more progress at this new trip. Speriamo has form figures of 1221 since September and hit a personal best over C&D last time, but the vote goes to LIA ROSE. Rae Guest’s 3yo took a while to get off the mark but she produced a strong finish when justifying favouritism here last time and should have more to offer on her step up to 1m4f.
Mykonos St John has scored twice here in his last four starts and is respected along with Roger Fell’s in-form 4yo Kalikapour, who could make a bold bid on his drop back in trip. However, top of the list is six-time course winner PORT NOIR, who has been resurgent with wins here in her last two runs and may well be able to complete the hat-trick.
Most of these come with risks attached but AMERICAN ROSE justified favouritism at Lingfield three runs back and was a creditable third against a pace bias over C&D last time. She should get a better tow into this race and is a big player for her in-form yard. The main threat could come from Bossy Parker, who is well handicapped on his C&D win in March and looks interesting on this step back up in trip.
11-time AW winner Harbour Vision has been placed here in his last two runs and should go well again back in trip. The 11yo Reputation has possibilities if this sets up for his closing style, while Mudlahhim and Plumette also enter the reckoning. However, the most striking contender is SPLIT ELEVENS, who has won five of his last eight starts and still looks feasibly treated on his strong-finishing success over C&D last time.
