Most of these have something to prove on one count or another but THE GLEN ROVERS has done really well since switched to handicaps and made it 3-5 on AW when scoring here last month. This lightly raced 5yo still looks feasibly treated off his revised mark and is open to more progress. Charlie Johnston’s handicap newcomer Sir Geoff Hurst is feared most, although Crystal Mariner looks worth another try at this trip and could be dangerous if he gets some luck.
Diamond Lil could leave her debut effort well behind and she’s a key player for her powerful yard. Tribal Act and Stavraetos are newcomers of note but this could rest between Blue Laced and AEGEAN PRINCE. The selection sets the standard and he looks capable of improvement over this extra furlong.
Although stall 12 isn’t ideal CHARLIE MASON still looks the way to go after his good second at Southwell last week. Dayman is well handicapped on his form from this time last year and is feared most after making an encouraging return from a break at Wolverhampton recently. Runaround Sioux and Lahina Bay are others likely to be on the premises.
The Gosden stable sent out Friendly Soul to make a winning debut in this last year and are taken to repeat the feat with SANDIRELLA, with confidence increased should the betting vibes be strong. Pearl Of Hope is likely to build on her Newmarket debut and is the obvious threat unless the betting speaks for one of the other newcomers.
It’s likely this will go to a newcomer, with CHINKARA getting the vote before betting clues are known. Unex Texas, Zabeel Rain and Casa De Salinas are also bred to be useful.
A useful contest. HELM ROCK looked to have a bit to spare when resuming winning ways at Southwell last month so a 3lb rise may not prevent him going in again. Second choice is Local Hero who made a good return to AW at Lingfield five weeks ago and is 2-2 at Kempton. Kalamunda’s Southwell defeat last month probably shouldn’t be taken to suggest the handicapper has got him, particularly if getting a good pace to aim at. This is no easy introduction to handicaps for Fast Society back from another break but he’s a fascinating contender.
This is highly competitive but it might be worth siding with Andrew Balding’s 3yo FIRE DEMON (nap), who is 3-5 on AW and looks interesting back at this trip on his return. Aramis Grey, who was fourth in the Ayr Gold Cup last time, is feared most ahead of the last-time-out winners Amazonian Dream and Havanagreattime. Ingra Tor also enters the reckoning while another to keep an eye on is Tiger Crusade, who ran well off a much higher mark in this race last year.
Having been in good form over C&D in the first half of the autumn, BIG R is taken to make a winning return to action. Grenham Bay is another two-time C&D winner and is next on the list, ahead of recent Chelmsford runner-up Merrimack.
Although he’s been a beaten favourite back on AW the last twice SOLANNA should have a win in him off this sort of mark before long. Fiddlers Green (second choice) is a former course scorer who merits respect after a back-to-form second on turf last time. Nasim was placed over C&D on his penultimate start, while The Pug is handicapped to have a say on first start for Adrian Wintle.
