Another Mattel executive has joined the senior ranks of Gap Inc.
On Monday, Gap Inc. named Sven Gerjets chief technology officer. Sven was chief technology officer at Mattel Inc., where he is credited with modernizing the direct-to-consumer technology stack and launching multiple connected consumer products and digital experiences including Hot Wheels iD, Fisher-Price Smart Connect, and Mattel Creations. Before Mattel, Sven led technology organizations across a few different industries, holding jobs at AT&T Wireless, Time Warner, DirecTV, Pearson and Symantec.
Gerjets will report to Richard Dickson, Gap Inc. president and chief executive officer, and another Mattel alumni. Prior to joining Gap Inc., Dickson was Mattel’s chief operating officer. During his nearly two decades at Mattel, on and off, he was instrumental in reviving the Barbie brand.
In one of his first hires at Gap, Dickson named Amy Thompson chief people officer. She had been chief people officer at Mattel.
In a memo to Gap Inc. employees on Monday, Dickson wrote, “We live in a daily digital dialogue with our customers. Further strengthening our platform is one of our key priorities, and it is crucial that our technology portfolio and digital roadmap support the reinvigoration of our brands and enable us to build deeper connections with our customers and achieve our goals.
“Sven has a distinguished track record of leading strategic and cultural transformations in the technology landscape,” Dickson added. “He is a champion of building highly inclusive teams with an approach of continuous enhancement and strategic insight.
“The adoption of the right technologies can help us push the boundaries of operational efficiency, product creation and customer engagement. We have just started the journey with data science, and I am confident that Sven’s expertise and leadership will put us on the right path to success.”
Gerjets succeeds Gurmeet Singh who joined Gap Inc. in July 2022 and stayed on the job for about two years.
