among top national schools for Engineering, Computer Science and Psychology
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech remains a top national university overall, according to the 2025 Best College Rankings released this week from U.S. News & World Report, and its programs in engineering, computer science, and psychology were among the nation’s best.
The comprehensive annual rankings, now in their 40th year, assess broad categories such as best national and regional universities and drill down for more specific looks at the best academic programs, the most international campuses and other, narrower topics.
Florida Tech’s steady excellence has ensured it remains among the best year after year.
It was No. 231 out of 434 national universities for 2025, an improvement of 38 spots—earning the institution recognition from University Business as one of a handful of schools making big moves. That rise was due to several factors, including an improvement in its student-to-faculty ratio and increases in retention rate and the Pell graduation rate.
U.S. News uses up to 17 factors to determine its college rankings, including graduation and first-year retention rates, peer assessment, faculty salaries, financial resources per student, and student-faculty ratio.
Elsewhere in the rankings, three undergraduate programs at Florida Tech were recognized for 2025: engineering (No. 156), computer science (No. 214) and psychology (No. 322).
And once again Florida Tech boasted among the most international student bodies in the country. With 16 percent international students in Fall 2023, the school was tied for No. 9.
“While rankings cannot capture the full university experience, they do spotlight a Florida Tech hallmark: we seek continuous improvement,” said Florida Tech President John Nicklow. “I look forward to continuing our focus on student success even as we work tirelessly to make the experience and outcomes of a Florida Tech education truly life-changing.”
