Bryan Armetta makes his DraftKings NBA Pick6 selections before Tuesday night’s games.
There are eight NBA games on tap for Tuesday. With so many players to choose from, there’s plenty of ways to get in on the action with DraftKings Sportsbook, including DraftKings NBA Pick6 selections ahead of tonight’s matchups.
The Pistons look like a semi-respectable basketball team for the first time in years, and much of the credit goes to Cade Cunningham. The former first overall pick has always been a statistical producer, but he’s taken his game to another level this season. The fourth-year guard is averaging 23.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists through eleven games.
Traditionally, this is a classic ‘stay away’ matchup. Yet, while the Heat still boast a solid defense, this year’s unit doesn’t appear to be at the caliber of previous squads. So far, Miami ranks 10th or worse in points, rebounds and assists allowed to opposing teams. Cunningham should be able to surpass this manageable P+A+R total.
After battling injuries the past two seasons, basketball fans are being reminded this season of LaMelo Ball’s sky-high talent. While the young Hornets are one of the league’s more inconsistent teams, the former All-Star has complete control of the offense on a nightly basis. That’s led to a career-best 29.4 points per game so far.
Part of Ball’s improvement as a scorer can be attributed to his shooting. The guard’s efficiency from three-point range is just decent (36.9%), but he’s attempting 13.0 long balls a night, the highest total in the NBA. However, the Magic excel on the perimeter, holding opposing teams to just 32.6 three-point shots per game, second-lowest in the league. As good as LaMelo is, he’s due for a letdown against this terrific defense.
Kevin Durant is set to miss the next two weeks with a calf strain. That means the Suns are in need of a new third option alongside Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Tyus Jones is a streaky scorer, but he’s as reliable a passer as it gets. After signing with Phoenix in the offseason, he’s put up 6.3 assists per game.
Now that Durant and his team-leading usage rate (27.5%) is sidelined, I’d expect more touches for Jones. A date with a bottom-five Jazz defense lines up nicely for the pass-first guard. In two games against Utah last year, the former Wizard averaged 10.0 assists. A similar performance is more than likely on Tuesday.
Trae Young has been ruled out of tonight’s contest, so the Hawks’ offense will lean heavily on Jalen Johnson. The forward has shown remarkable progress over four seasons in the NBA, going from part-time role player to double-double machine. This season, he’s shown improvement as a passer, posting just under 5 assists per game.
Still, there are a few factors working against Johnson’s passing tonight. For starters, he’ll have to go up against an elite Celtics defense in a game that could be a blowout by the fourth quarter. In addition, last season he only averaged 4.0 assists in the 18 games he played without Young, so the guard’s absence doesn’t really affect this number in a major way. With all that in mind, I think Johnson’s contributions vs. Boston will come mainly via points and rebounds.
Back in Philadelphia for another season, Kelly Oubre Jr. has been the same as ever: good defense, poor efficiency. Normally, that wouldn’t be an issue, but the 76ers have gotten off to a nightmarish 2-7 start thanks to absences for all three of their star players. However, with both Joel Embiid and Paul George set to play tonight, most of the roster should settle in to their normal roles going forward.
During last spring’s grueling six-game series against the Knicks, Oubre was one of the few bright spots for Philadelphia. Head coach Nick Nurse used the wing to harass Jalen Brunson on the perimeter, leaving him on the floor for over 37 minutes per game. While it’s normally unreasonable to expect a similar workload in a regular season game, Philly’s options are limited with no Tyrese Maxey and both Embiid and George recovering from injuries. Given his success in this matchup before, Oubre is a sneaky play that could deliver tonight.
It’s been an uneven start for the 4-5 Knicks, but it hasn’t been due to the play of Karl-Anthony Towns. New York’s new acquisition has been terrific from the jump, averaging 24.9 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists this season. All eyes in Philadelphia are fixated on Jalen Brunson, so the big man should have his way once again during tonight’s marquee matchup.
Normally, a date with Joel Embiid wouldn’t be a walk in the park for any center, but the former MVP will be on a minutes restriction in his first game back from injury. Even when these two have played each other fully healthy, KAT has posted a respectable 21.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists over 11 games. Towns is rolling right now, and there’s little reason to expect a letdown game any time soon.
