It was understood that going into the offseason, a bright spot for the Sooners was that they are only losing two seniors from the group that won a Big 12 regular season title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament – if there are no transfer portal exits.
Well, things have gotten even better for the Sooners as they land one of the best players in the transfer portal, 6-foot-4 center Raegan Beers from Oregon State. Beers entered the transfer portal on April 11. Just about two and a half weeks later, she announced her commitment to OU with two words and a video.
“I’m home,” Beers posted on X, the app formerly known as Twitter.
Considered the top transfer prospect still in the portal by 247Sports national writer Brandon Clay, Beers has two years of eligibility remaining.
Beers, a sophomore from Littleton (Col.) Valor Christian was a McDonald’s All-American and a Jordan Brand Classic All-American prior to enrolling at Oregon State.
During her freshman season, Beers made history. She became the first player in Pac-12 history to win both the 2023 Pac-12 Freshman and Sixth Player of the Year in the same season.
As a true freshman, she started six games and played in all 31 of the Beavers games and tied for the most double-doubles in the country by a freshman. She’s only improved over this past year.
This season, she averaged 17.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and shot over 66% from the field for an Oregon State team that secured a No. 3-seeding in the NCAA Tournament. She led Oregon State in scoring and rebounding and the country in field goal percentage (66.4%). Her efforts earned her a second consecutive All-Pac-12 honor and a Third-Team AP All-American.
She recorded 16 double-doubles despite missing time late in the season with a broken nose.
Beers was the seventh departure from Oregon State since advancing to the Elite Eight this season. After the dismantling of the Pac-12, Oregon State is joining the West Coast Conference.
Beers will be added to an Oklahoma roster that is only going to look better as they head into year four under Big 12 Coach of the Year Jennie Baranczyk – she won the award after leading Oklahoma to its second consecutive regular-season title. In addition to her accolades, Skylar Vann and Payton Verhulst earned WBCA All-America honorable mentions. Vann was named the Co-Big 12 Player of the Year and Verhulst was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.
