The Cleveland Cavaliers have had some of the best players in the league suit up for the franchise over the years.
However, a current star on the Cavaliers roster continues to be overlooked despite his success since entering the league.
In a recent interview on Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero’s podcast, the club’s superstar expressed his feelings about the disrespect, as well as his disappointment that his name was left off a list of candidates for the 2028 club USA Olympic roster.
“Realistically, I look at myself as one of the top 10, top 15 players in this league,” Donovan Mitchell stated on a recent episode of the “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast. “But I haven’t made it to the Conference Finals. So in order for me to make that jump, I can’t sit here and get mad.”
“I can sit here and get mad and use it as fuel. But I can’t get mad at the list because it’s an accolade-based list. Whether it’s right, wrong, or indifferent, it’s just what it is.”
Mitchell was drafted with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. The Louisville product took the league by storm averaging 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists during his rookie campaign.
After five years in Utah, Mitchell was dealt to the Cavaliers in a blockbuster deal that gave the star the fresh start he desired after his relationship with the Jazz soured. In 123 games in Cleveland, the guard has averaged 27.5 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 47.5% from field goal range and 37.8% from three.
Throughout his five years in the league, Mitchell has become a four-time NBA All-Star and named to one All-NBA team.
Despite not leading a team past the second round of the playoffs, there’s no denying that Mitchell is one of the top players in the league.
