With district play intensifying around the Lone Star State, the 2024-25 Texas boys and girls high school basketball season is heating up.
Several of the Big Country’s sharpest shooters and most prolific playmakers put on electric performances to power their teams to pivotal victories in district competition.
Here’s a closer look at the Big Country’s top performers on the basketball court for the week of Jan. 20-26, 2025:
Gracie Caperton, Clyde girls basketball
Caperton played a major role in helping the Bulldogs secure back-to-back district wins over San Angelo Grape Creek (62-43) and Merkel (53-36). She scored a team-high 27 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals versus Grape Creek, and also tallied 22 points, six rebounds, six assists, a steal and a block against Merkel.
Isaiah Carrillo, Abilene Wylie boys basketball
Carrillo dropped a game-high 21 points to lead Wylie to a 54-26 victory against crosstown rival Abilene Cooper in district play.
Samia Cooper, Abilene High girls basketball
Cooper recorded 24 points and drilled five 3-pointers in the Eagles’ 64-39 win over crosstown rival Abilene Cooper.
Jessica Crawford, Snyder girls basketball
Crawford lifted the Tigers to a pivotal 45-43 victory against district rival Big Spring with a double-double that included 17 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
Kelsie Criswell, Aspermont girls basketball
Criswell tallied a double-double with 18 points, 13 rebounds and five steals to carry Aspermont to a win over Hamlin.
Kayla Falco, Gorman girls basketball
Falco had a monster performance in the Panthers’ 75-28 runaway win over Lingleville, finishing with 31 points, eight steals, five assists and four rebounds.
Riley Gorhman, Tuscola Jim Ned girls basketball
Gorham finished with a game-high 23 points in Jim Ned’s 63-34 victory over Sweetwater.
Kamyn Hale, Santa Anna girls basketball
Hale racked up 37 points, 11 rebounds, a steal and a block on 11-of-35 shooting in a 46-45 win against Blanket.
Mazin Lawrence, Abilene Cooper boys basketball
Lawrence poured in 23 points for the Cougars in their 60-53 loss to crosstown rival Abilene High.
Isaac Martniez, Lingleville boys basketball
Martinez tallied 24 points, five assists, four rebounds, two blocks and a steal in a 54-27 win against Gorman.
Korda Moore, Sweetwater boys basketball
Moore scored a game-high 35 points in the Mustangs’ nail-biting 52-50 loss to district rival Jim Ned.
Wyatt Nickson, Tuscola Jim Ned boys basketball
Nickson powered the Indians to a 52-50 win against Sweetwater with a team-high 23 points.
Law Pinnick, Cisco boys basketball
Pinnick posted a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Loboes to a 77-55 win against Anson.
Brooks Reese, Abilene High boys basketball
Reese accounted for 25 points for the Eagles in a 60-53 victory against crosstown rival Abilene Cooper.
Alex Terrell, Comanche boys basketball
Terrell averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in back-to-back wins over Early (54-45) and Dublin (66-46) to extend Comanche’s five-game winning streak in district play.
