IPL 2024 Squad- (X.com)
The BCCI has begun planning for the next edition of IPL as the apex cricket board is planning to hold a meeting with all ten owners in the last week of July to discuss several topics ahead of the next season.
The few topics on the agenda of BCCI is the no. of retentions ahead of mega-auction, impact player rule, and also the salary cap.
Latest reports from Cricbuzz suggested that the salary cap for a team at the auction table is expected to be increased to 120 crore from current 90 crores cap in the first year of the next three-year cycle.
If this rule comes into act, then the players who will be retained by their teams will benefit heavily from it, as the top retention can cross an annual salary of 20 crores.
Currently, top retention of any team gets less than 20 crore for a season because of the rule that says that the salary of the top retained player can only be around 16-17 percent of the salary cap (INR 15 crore in a salary cap of INR 90 crore). But with increased cap, now top-retained player will enjoy a 20 crore+ annual salary.
Also, the report added that most of the teams are in favour of having retention limit be increased to 7-8 players ahead of mega-auction.
