The Philadelphia 76ers held their media day on Monday, and it did not disappoint with entertaining moments.
One of which came courtesy of Sixers center Andre Drummond, who is entering his second stint with the team. He is widely regarded as one of the best rebounders of his era, but the 31-year-old took his opinion on the debate a step further.
“I am the best rebounder to ever play the game,” Drummond said, according to reporter Ky Carlin.
Drummond is a four-time rebounding champion, averaging a career-high of 16 rebounds in 2018. He also crossed the 15-rebound mark in three other campaigns, all of which came with the Detroit Pistons. While he is certainly a much weaker body on the glass than in his prime, he will serve a serious role backing up superstar Joel Embiid. He averaged just 9 rebounds last season with the Chicago Bulls.
NBA fans were at near-consensus in the comments that Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman has the title of the ‘best rebounder to ever play the game.’ Rodman was a seven-time rebounding champion at 6-foot-7 compared to Drummond’s 6-foot-11, 280-pound frame. His most impressive campaign occurred with the Detroit Pistons, averaging 18.7 rebounds. His dominance on the glass even landed him in the top-10 of MVP voting in 1992.
Drummond will continue adding to his rebounding resume in Philadelphia, but it’s hard to imagine him surpassing the Chicago Bulls great.
