For nerds like me, watching Roger Goodell walk up to the podium just to be booed by every NFL fan base is like Christmas morning. It’s exciting enough without a sweat, but with some of these picks, you’ll have a sweat for the entirety of Night 1 of the NFL Draft!
DraftKings Sportsbook is the place to be for all your draft betting needs. Let’s break down some picks that might just make your draft night even more exciting.
1. Dallas Turner 1st Defensive Player Selected +125
“Prospect Fatigue” is a real thing, and there’s a lot of talk about other defensive players being taken ahead of the Alabama pass rusher this draft. I’m not falling for it, and am taking Turner to go first at +125, while also considering a small hedge for him to be the 1st DL/Edge selected at +110.
2. Xavier Legette Over 33.5 (+104)
This is a stacked WR class, with depth of talent, experience, and size. I believe that Legette’s relative age and inability to create separation in the short-intermediate field will have teams preferring other options in the 1st round such as Brian Thomas Jr., Xavier Worthy, or Keon Coleman. At plus money? Love this play.
3. Rome Odunze Over 8.5 (+120)
I project a minimum of 4 quarterbacks to go in the top 8 picks. With other “locks” like Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Joe Alt reportedly going in these first few picks, I’m having a tough time finding a spot in my mock drafts for Rome Odunze. Atlanta sits at No. 8, and unless they feel they need another premier weapon for Kirk Cousins alongside Bijan, Drake, and Kyle Pitts, I think they go defense with this first pick. That leaves Washington’s finest Rome Odunze to fall to the Bears at pick No. 9, cashing this over ticket at +120.
4. Drake Maye 3rd QB selected (-130)
Maye’s stock has fallen only because of the rise of Jayden Daniels. There are significant reports of J.J. McCarthy being in play for New England at No. 3, which would be shocking to say the least. I’m comfortable laying the -130 to see Drake Maye come home to my New England Patriots to begin our rebuild!
5. Xavier Worthy > Adonai Mitchell (+180)
These next few picks are all related.
Worthy has been generating buzz as a top receiving prospect after breaking the combine 40-yard dash record last month. Adonai Mitchell, while talented, has seen his draft stock fall due to off the field concerns, making him a solid bet to be selected behind Worthy. At +180, I’m willing to take the bet someone falls in love with the Texas speedster the way the Bengals did with John Ross a few years back.
6. Xavier Worthy Under 29.5 (+120)
Worthy’s talent is undeniable, and with teams hungry for playmakers, don’t be surprised if he goes off the board earlier than expected. Plus, at +120, the under on his pick number looks mighty enticing.
7. Adonai Mitchell Over 27.5 (-150)
While Mitchell has potential, the depth of this year’s receiver class and off field issues could see him slip further down the draft board. At -150, betting on him to go over the 27.5 mark seems relatively fine.
8. Jared Verse Under 16.5 (-110)
Verse has been turning heads with his athleticism and versatility, and sources reportedly have him as some NFL team’s #1 pass rusher over the aforementioned Dallas Turner. At -110, the under on his pick number offers solid value.
9. Keon Coleman in the 1st Round (+425)
Can you tell I’ve been studying this wide receiver group? Keon Coleman is easily one of the most talented and high-upside receivers in this year’s class. His route running and jump ball ability for someone his size are rare traits, and similar receivers like Drake London and Mike Williams have gone very high in recent years. With WR needy teams like Buffalo, Baltimore, SF, and Kansas City all sitting at the end of the draft, I’d anticipate Coleman going in one of these spots.
