LeBron James can rise on the NBA’s all-time leaderboard in 3 categories before the 2024-25 season ends.
The 2024-25 season is more than halfway over and the All-Star break is in the books. What statistical milestones could be toppled before this season is complete? Below are 18 major individual milestones and several team milestones you should have on your radar.
Note: Players are listed in alphabetical order.
Kevin Durant entered the 30,000-point club shortly before the All-Star break, becoming the eighth player to accomplish that feat in NBA history. Durant needs 392 field goals to pass Hakeem Olajuwon for No. 10 in that category and needs 163 more 3-pointers to pass Vince Carter for No. 10.
Rank | Player | Field goals |
10. | Hakeem Olajuwon | 10,749 (392 field goals away) |
11. | Alex English | 10,659 (302 field goals away) |
12. | John Havlicek | 10,513 (146 field goals away) |
13. | Kevin Garnett | 10,505 (148 field goals away) |
14. | Kevin Durant | 10,358 |
Rank | Player | 3-pointers made |
10. | Vince Carter | 2,290 (163 3-pointers away) |
11. | Jason Terry | 2,282 (155 3-pointers away) |
12. | Jamal Crawford | 2,221 (94 3-pointers away) |
13. | Kyle Lowry | 2,204 (77 3-pointers away) |
14. | Paul Pierce | 2,143 (16 3-pointers away) |
15. | Kevin Durant | 2,128 |
LeBron James became the all-time leader in minutes played on Dec. 20 and entered the Top 5 in games played on Nov. 16. James ranks No. 4 in games played and needs two more to pass Vince Carter for No. 3 and could become the first NBA player with 60,000 career minutes. Lastly, he is 44 3-pointers away from passing Reggie Miller (2,560) for No. 6 all-time.
James needs to play in 21 more games to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1,560) for No. 2 in that category (James has appeared in 48 of the Lakers’ 52 games so far this season). For the 60,000-minute mark, he’d need at least 1,746 minutes in the Lakers final 30 games to accomplish that feat.
Nikola Jokić leads the league with 25 triple-doubles, which already ranks as the 10th most in a single season. He has a chance at reaching the most triple-doubles in a season (42), which Russell Westbrook set in his Kia MVP season in 2016-17. Jokić needs 18 triple-doubles in Denver’s final 27 games to surpass Westbrook for the single-season mark. He can reach the Top 5 in single-season triple-doubles by getting seven more for No. 5 (passing Wilt Chamberlain’s 31 in 1967-68), 11 for No. 4 (passing Westbrook’s 34 in 2018-19), 14 for No. 3 (Westbrook’s 38 in 2020-21) and 17 for No. 2 (Oscar Robertson’s 41 in 1961-62).
San Antonio Spurs veteran guard Chris Paul is one steal from breaking a tie with Jason Kidd for No. 2 all-time. At 2,684 career thefts, he has already matched his steals total from 2023-24 (70) and is on pace for another 40 steals. That would mark his first season with 100-plus steals since 2021-22.
Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook has two milestones within reach as the season winds down. He needs 238 points to pass Kevin Garnett (26,071) for No. 20 and may be able to pass Tim Duncan (No. 17, 663 points away) before the end of the season. Getting to No. 15 would take an epic surge, but he would move ahead of Oscar Robertson (877 points away).
Westbrook has 9,775 assists in his career, which ranks No. 9. He needs 113 more assists to pass Robertson (9,887) for No. 8 and is 225 assists away from becoming the eighth player in NBA history with 10,000 career assists.
Rank | Player | Points |
15. | Oscar Robertson | 26,710 (877 points away) |
16. | Dominique Wilkins | 26,668 (835 points away) |
17. | Tim Duncan | 26,496 (663 points away) |
18. | Paul Pierce | 26,397 (564 points away) |
19. | John Havlicek | 26,395 (562 points away) |
20. | Kevin Garnett | 26,071 (238 points away) |
21. | Russell Westbrook | 25,834 |
Devin Booker: Field goals made, free throw attempts
Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker became the team’s all-time leading scorer on Feb. 4 and has at least two other Suns records within range this season. He needs 204 more field goals to pass Alvan Adams (5,709) for No. 2 in that category and 115 more free throw attempts to pass Amar’e Stoudemire for No. 3 (4,018). To date, Booker has 411 field goals and 345 free throw attempts. If he matches last season’s stats in both categories (642 field goals, 457 free throw attempts), he’ll easily clear both benchmarks.
Jordan Clarkson: 3-pointers made
Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson ranks in the top 20 in many categories in team history but can climb into the Top 3 in 3-pointers made before 2024-25 is over. Clarkson needs 37 more 3-pointers to pass John Stockton (845) in 3-pointers made. Clarkson is averaging 2.4 3-pointers per game this season and has played in 30 of Utah’s 54 games. If he sticks to his current average, he’d only need to play in 15 or 16 of the remaining games to move ahead of Stockton.
Anthony Edwards: Points and steals
Minnesota Timberwolves swingman Anthony Edwards can enter the team’s Top 3 in points and steals. Edwards has scored 8,403 points in his Wolves career and needs to score at least 308 points to surpass Andrew Wiggins (8710) for No. 3. To date, Edwards has scored 1,483 points and needs only get to 1,791 points this season to pass Wiggins (Edwards has scored 1,900 or more points in each of the last two seasons). Edwards also needs 26 more steals to pass Corey Brewer (502) for the No. 3 spot. Edwards has 64 steals this season and 26 more would put him at 90 steals — but he hasn’t recorded less than 101 steals in a season since 2020-21.
Draymond Green: Assists
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green can rise the team’s all-time assists list before the season ends as he needs 63 assists to pass Guy Rodgers (4,855) for No. 2 in that category. Green is averaging 5.6 assists per game this season and with 27 games left, he wouldn’t even need to play in every game to get to 63 assists if his average holds up.
Nikola Jokić: Field goal attempts, 3-pointers made and attempted
Jokić tops many categories in team history and can add to his legacy before 2024-25 ends. Jokić (10,741) needs 137 more field goal attempts to pass Carmelo Anthony (10,877) for No. 2 in that category and needs 30 3-pointers and 68 more 3-point attempts to pass Will Barton (804-for-2,220) for No. 2. Field goal attempts shouldn’t be an issue: Jokić is at 963 attempts and has logged more than 1,200 attempts in four of the past six seasons. This season, he is 99-for-220 on 3-pointers, both of which are nearing career highs. Should he continue his output from deep, passing Barton may not be a challenge, either.
