AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas women’s basketball head coach Vic Schaefer announced the signing of Aaliyah Crump on Wednesday. Crump, a 6-1 guard from Shakopee, Minn., is ranked No. 5 on the espnw top 100 list.
In her junior season Crump averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 3.3 assists in leading her high school, Minnetonka to the 2024 4A State Championship. Crump is a two-time All-State honoree, team captain and was selected the 2024 MaxPreps Minnesota Player of the Year. Crump was named to the watch list for the 2024-25 Naismith Trophy Girl’s High School Player of the Year award.
“I’m excited and proud to announce the signing of Aaliyah Crump to our program,” Texas head coach Vic Schaefer said. “Aaliyah is someone we identified several years ago as a young lady who would continue to develop into an elite basketball player and someone who could be an incredible student athlete here at The University of Texas. She is already a state champion, a USA Basketball gold medalist and I believe the best is yet to come.”
Crump has been a member of USA Basketball since 2022 and in 2023 was part of the USA Women’s U16 National Team that earned the Gold Medal at the FIBA Americas Championship in Merida, Mexico. She ranked second on the team in made threes and three-point percentage.
Crump is the daughter of Ashley Wolf and Michael Crump, both of who played collegiate sports at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo.
“Aaliyah comes from an incredible family,” Schaefer said. “She is highly motivated and her skill set is off the charts. Her court vision is elite and rare. Aaliyah plays very unselfish basketball, yet at the same time she is a high-level scorer. She can stretch the floor well beyond the 3-point line and can elevate over a defender to create her own shot whenever she wants to. She is a great teammate, loves the game, and is extremely talented. These qualities separate her and will allow her to be a great collegiate basketball player as well as a pro one day. She will bring intensity, an elite work ethic and a winning attitude to our locker room and our culture. In other words, Aaliyah Crump is the total package and our women’s basketball program here at The University of Texas just got a whole lot better.”
Crump has been mentored by an elite group of coaches and teams throughout her career, who have helped develop and molded her into the player she is today. Those include Bill Larson at North Tartan, Dickson Jenson at All Iowa Attack and Brian Cosgriff at Minnetonka High School and Marqus McGlothan, who is now at Eastern Illinois.
Crump intends to major in Sports Management and Marketing at Texas and is excited to join the Longhorns.
“I chose Texas women’s basketball because from day one the coaches made the program feel like home to me,” Crump said. “The University of Texas will allow me to play the highest level of basketball and also receive a top-tier education. The coaching staff was very intentional in the way they recruited me and challenged me to be my best every day. I’ve always dreamt of playing for a winning program, and I know that those dreams will come to life playing for Vic Schaefer and his amazing staff. This program is bound to make history, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
