As the weather continues to remind us that winter is right around the corner, Wilmington-area high school athletes are keeping the hot performances rolling in.
This week is a big one for volleyball, as conference champions are determined before the start of the postseason next week. On Wednesday, Topsail and Hoggard will square off for the third time this fall to crown a final champion.
In the Waccamaw Conference, Whiteville swept South Columbus to earn the conference title Tuesday.

Rowan Forkin, Jr., Cape Fear Academy: Forkin helped Cape Fear Academy open the postseason with an 8-0 win over Thales Academy thanks to his pair of goals and assists.
Aiden McDonough, Soph., Wilmington Christian: McDonough scored twice and delivered two assists as the Patriots defeated Scotland Christian.
Benjamin Weeks, Sr., Hoggard: Weeks scored a hat trick in the Vikings’ 9-0 win over North Brunswick. The senior also recorded two assists.
Isaiah Jumansingh, Jr., Hoggard: Jumansignh scored three goals and dished out one assist in the win.
Clark Beery, Sr., Hoggard: Beery scored three goals in the win.
Deyson Castillio, Jr., New Hanover: Castillio scored three goals and assisted on one more in the Wildcats’ 7-0 win over South Brunswick.
Ryan Lambert, Sr., Topsail: Lambert had 15 kills and two aces as the Pirates swept South Brunswick 3-0.
Addie Norman, Sr., Hoggard: Norman notched 19 kills in the Vikings’ 3-0 victory over Ashley.
Elsa Southerland, Sr., Coastal Christian: Southerland had 18 kills and two aces as the Centurians defeated Fayetteville Christian 3-0.
McKenna Hunter, Sr., Wilmington Christian: Hunter logged 11 kills as the Patriots defeated Scotland Christian 3-0.
Jessica Hill, Jr., Ashley: Hill recorded 12 kills as the Screaming Eagles defeated North Brunswick 3-0.
