Top highlights of last night’s RR vs RCB match:
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and asked RCB to bat first in Ahmedabad. The well settled pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis opened the innings for RCB. The Bengaluru based franchise lost their first wicket inside the powerplay with skipper Faf Du Plessis (17 off 14 balls) dismissed by Trent Boult in the 4th over of the match.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, who has been in excellent touch this season, couldn’t make a big impact in the game as well and was eventually dismissed on a score of 33 in the 8th over of the match. Cameron Green (27 off 21) and Rajat Patidar (34 off 22) then stitched together a partnership for the next 5 overs but the wickets of Green, Patidar and Maxxwell in a short time frame gave a big jolt to the RCB, that couldn’t recover from that point on. However, a crucial knock by Mahipal Lomror (32 off 17 balls) and a cameo from Swampil Singh (9 off 4 balls) helped RCB get to a below par but still respectable total of 172/8 in their 20 overs.
In reply, RR opened the batting with Tom Kohler-Cadmore alongside the aggressive Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both the batters provided a solid start to the RR innings until Cadmore was eventually dismissed on 20 in the last over of the powerplay. The aggressive effort from Jaiswal along with support from skipper Sanju Samson helped Rajasthan Royals cross the 80 run mark in under 10 overs but the quick wickets of Jaiswal and Samson just ahead of the halfway stage put RR in a pickle during the first eliminator. Moreover, the wicket of Dhruv Jurel (8) in the 14th over of the match, made the situation even more threatening for the Rajasthan based franchise.
However, a crucial partnership from Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmeyer helped RR get a hold on the scoring rate and set the victory in sights for them. Adding some much needed twist to the game, Mohammed Siraj dismissed the two well settled batters in the 18th over to keep the clash wide open.
An aggressive effort from Rovman Powell in the very next over, however, helped RR get past finish line and secure a berth for Qualifier 2 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday.
