Let the trade rumor mill start churning.
The 2024 season in the NFL is still fairly young, with the calendar just turning to October. However, with the trade deadline on the horizon, the reports and rumblings have begun.
The NFL trade deadline isn’t as big as those of its counterparts in the NBA, MLB or the NHL, but it has gained a bit of steam in recent years. Last season a whopping 15 trades were made ahead of deadline day, making it one of the most active NFL trade deadlines in recent memory.
Some of those deals involved notable players, with the largest of the bunch featuring Chase Young, Montez Sweat and Leonard Williams.
This year, there may be bigger fish in play at the deadline. The trade reports have already begun surrounding a disgruntled wide receiver in Sin City and a star edge rusher who has yet to play a snap in the Big Apple.
The deal could be done in advance of the deadline, allowing players more time to adjust to their new playbooks. However, don’t be surprised to see a frenzy of deals made on the actual deadline day.
Below is everything you need to know about the details of the 2024 NFL trade deadline, including a list of potential targets for teams looking to make deals.

The NFL trade deadline will pass at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for the league’s 2024 season. Some trades may not be officially announced until after that hour has passed, but all trades must be agreed upon and filed to the league office before then.
The 2023 NFL trade deadline was one of the most active the NFL has seen in quite some time, as 15 players were traded before the window closed. Among the players who found a new home were Chase Young, Montez Sweat and Leonard Williams.
Once the NFL trade deadline passes, the league’s 32 clubs will no longer be permitted to make trades until the new league year begins. That won’t be until March 12, 2025, at 4 p.m. ET.
That said, while trades can’t be completed during the early stages of the offseason, teams are allowed to agree to deals in principle during that period. They won’t become official until the start of the new year when the 2024 contracts expire.
The Sporting News will keep track of all of the trades completed since Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season began on Sept. 5.
So far, there have been no deals made in the 2024 season.

Since the NFL’s expansion to a 14-team postseason in 2020, the league has seen an uptick in trade activity. That’s because the extra playoff spots have created more potential wild-card contenders around the league who have been looking to bolster their rosters at the midseason point.
Below are some of the most notable players who could be made available ahead of the trade deadline.
Adams officially requested a trade out of Las Vegas, shooting him to the top of the list of trade targets. He’s in the third season of a five-year contract he signed with the Raiders in 2022, however, the star wide receiver is looking for a change of scenery. The Raiders could elect to keep him, but he’s the biggest name available on the market.
So far in 2024, Adams has 18 catches on 27 targets for 209 yards and a touchdown in three games.

Reddick was acquired by the Jets in a deal with the Eagles this offseason, but he hasn’t played a single snap yet in 2024.
Reddick requested a trade out of New York after the two sides could not come to an agreement on a contract extension last year, and as a result, the edge rusher has been holding out. He holds more value to the Jets on the field, who could use a pass rusher like him, but if a contract agreement isn’t made, it’s likely he’ll move elsewhere.
Reddick is coming off a 2023 season where he had 11 sacks for the Eagles.

If a team is in need of veteran help in the secondary, the first call should be to the Cardinals for Baker. The 28-year-old is set to be a free agent this offseason, and if Arizona isn’t keen on signing him to an extension, a trade could be in the works if the Cardinals fall out of contention.
Baker has 39 tackles through four games in 2024 and would be a reliable option at safety for a contender.
It took two weeks before the Panthers pulled the plug on Young’s sophomore season, benching the 2023 No. 1 pick for veteran Andy Dalton. At the time, head coach Dave Canales said that the team would not trade the young QB, but you never know what can happen.
Teams could be interested in giving Young a change of scenery, who is still on a cheap rookie deal. In two games this season, the Panthers QB completed 55.4 percent of his passes for 245 yards, no touchdowns and three picks.

The Broncos have a jammed QB room. Denver elected to keep all three of Wilson, Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, with Nix eventually winning the starting job. Nix, the No. 12 pick from 2024, hasn’t been great, but he’s done enough to keep his role as QB1.
Wilson is listed behind Nix and Stidham on the depth chart, and with his cheap contract, he could be a reclamation project for a club in need of a backup QB, or an addition for a team with injuries at the position.
The Panthers are in line to be sellers yet again at the deadline. The organization has not shied away from moving on from talent through trades, and given the running back situation in Carolina, Sanders is a likely candidate to be on the move. He’s behind Chuba Hubbard on the depth chart, and rookie Jonathon Brooks will be activated at some point.
So far, Sanders has managed 91 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. He has two years left on his deal after 2024.
The Texans have a loaded RB room and it feels like one of them will be cut loose at some point. Pierce makes the most sense to be the odd man out.
Pierce is currently listed second on the depth chart behind Joe Mixon and ahead of Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale, but a hamstring injury has limited Pierce to just one game of action, rushing for 16 yards in his lone contest. Once he’s healthy, he could be a trade target for another club.
After he was selected in the second round by the Giants in 2021, Ojulari put up eight sacks as a rookie. However, that number has dwindled the last two seasons, as New York reshaped its defensive line to include edge rushers Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
With Ojulari as the odd man out, it would make sense for the Giants to move him in the final year of his deal.
White signed a one-year deal this offseason with Philadelphia but lost the middle linebacker job to Nakobe Dean. He entered the season with an ankle injury but was healed up by Week 2. Despite that, he has yet to see the field for the Eagles, getting healthy scratched in favor of younger options on the roster.
The Eagles would be smart to get something for White, who may be able to see playing time elsewhere.
