After going 6-6 this season, West Virginia fired head football coach Neal Brown. The university will now seek its new football leader after Mountaineers won double-digit games only once since joining the Big 12 in 2012. The Big 12 can be seen as the land of opportunity at the moment since Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham has the Sun Devils playing in the Big 12 Championship Game in his second year at the school, proving if you find the right coach, they can step in and quickly take a team to the top of the conference. Who is the best person to replicate Arizona State’s success during the West Virginia football coaching search? If you love the Mountaineers, or just want to know who will call the shots for West Virginia football in the future, be sure to see what the proven team of insiders are saying at EerSports, the 247Sports affiliate that covers West Virginia.

One name the staff has identified as a potential target is Jacksonville State head coach Rich Rodriguez. The former Mountaineers head coach failed at Michigan when he went 15-22 over three years following seven seasons at West Virginia, but he’s been successful at his stops after Ann Arbor. He went 43-35 over six years at Arizona and he led Jacksonville State to the Conference USA Championship Game this season in his second year as head coach. Rodriguez entered the title game with a 17-8 record over his first two years at Jacksonville State at the Division I level.
Rodriguez coached Jacksonville State to a 9-2 record in the FCS in 2022 before the school joined Conference USA. Given his history and ability to bring Jacksonville State immediate success at the FBS level, the 61-year-old could be a popular name on the coaching search for programs in bigger conferences. After going 60-26 over seven seasons at West Virginia, a reunion could be mutually beneficial. See more candidates at EerSports.
The rest of the list includes a former NFL head coach along with multiple shocking names who have won big in college football. You can only see who they are at EerSports.
