A suspected ransomware attack was detected on August 21st and forced Haliburton to isolate affected systems. Haliburton, the US’s second-largest energy firm hasn’t released all of the information about the attack or its effects, and the US Department of Energy said the incident had not impacted services.

A startup founded by three Harvard dropouts called Etched is developing an application-specific integrated circuit that runs one type of AI – transformers. Ethed’s ‘Sohu’ chips could replace 160 of Nvidia GPUs with only 8 chips.

On Wednesday a SpaceX rocket booster crashed during landing, causing the aerospace company to postpone a launch planned for later in the day. The FAA grounded all Falcon 9 rockets until the crash’s investigation is complete. This has delayed other plans for SpaceX but also could delay the February mission to rescue the two astronauts stranded on board the ISS.

A group of 32 researchers from MIT, OpenAI, and Microsoft have proposed a system to fight back against the exploitation of deceptive AI. This verification concept called ‘personhood credentials’ prove that their holder is a real person without revealing any further information about their identity.
